Carmen Lamp

         Carmen Lamp

I discovered my passion with painting the same year that my mother passed away. She was passionate about the art of oils and although I had always admired her work, I was never able to paint alongside, and learn from her. When my mother passed, her paints, brushes and canvases were given to me and somehow, I felt that her passion was too. In a way, painting is one way that I can honor her memory.

I have enjoyed watching a blank canvas evolve and unfold through the process of constant learning and experimenting with value, light, mood and contrast while working with pastels. I especially enjoy the dreaminess of this medium and the immediate feedback in color and value. Every piece of art is a learning and discovery process that brings me great joy, satisfaction and an opportunity to learn something new about art, the process, or myself.

Although predominantly a self-taught artist, I continue to learn through selective workshops, dialogue with other artists, and reading. Most importantly, I continue to make some aspect of art a daily component of my day. I take every opportunity to be in front of my easel to paint, explore and learn with every work of art.
