Mission Statement
The Pastel Society of the Gold Coast is a non-profit organization for the specific purpose of providing public exhibitions for its members, to educate the community through collaboration with environmental and other non-profit organizations, and to promote the arts in general.

The quest for self-exploration came to me through my art. As my journey evolved, I explored mask-making, calligraphy, silversmithing, clay and gourd art. I conducted many workshops and provided craft experiences for thousands of children and adults in the South Bay of Southern California.
From 1999-2004, my husband and I traveled around Europe in a motorhome. During that 5-year sojourn, I discovered that I was missing something in my artistic development---the ability to draw and paint. Europe opened my eyes to wonders I had never experienced before. I longed to be able to record some of these new visions on paper and canvas.
In 2005 at the age of 60, I crossed an important goal off my bucket list---to learn how to draw. I attended life-drawing classes at Santa Barbara City College’s Continuing Ed program.
In 2007 I pursued yet another bucket-list goal---I learned to paint.

Through my paintings, I am now able to record what I see around me. As an artist, I have become intrigued with decaying objects that are part of everyday life. These are my portraits. To me, there is something grand and significant about the process of aging, and I find beauty in survival and endurance.
As people look at my work, I want the viewer to pause and think about the untold stories and to honor the transformations that take place in simple objects as the layers of life unfold.
